a quilt from the 80's. i made this for my son jesse. this quilt has gone with him to college, to living in san francisco and now living in brooklyn (click on the link for 'bike the big apple'). the quilt was back for some repairs, which included a new backing - check out the bicycle fabric. i am proud to say that my hand-stitched french binding held up beautifully for 25 years.

i expanded on my goodbye man and here are six of them. they are made from the materials i used in a mark making assignment. the bodies are from the cardboard pieces i made to collagraph prints or the prints themselves. the faces are from cardboard carved out for block printing, which i later filled in with yarn stitching. each one has a moving arm - thanks to the wonders of pipe cleaners - with a hand that is embroidered with some version of 'goodbye.' when each one is suspended from the ceiling, the hands are in constant motion, always saying 'goodbye.'
