karaoke...?

just so ya know...i don't karaoke (unless it's madonna songs). and as you can see, i am not even sure how to spell it. but a friend in new york, brian smith, does karaoke. i was commissioned by his fans to fashion this sock monkey in honor of brian's true karaoke dedication. how many people do you know, have been written about in the nytimes? this is big stuff!

she's back!

irritable has been found! she was just on her way to college, where she will be starting classes soon. she was soooo happy to see big hiney that she took him to visit their friend, the lobster. all is well in love-ville. whew!

what is big hiney thinking?

he is all alone, without irritable? what is going on? perhaps he is reconsidering a 24 hour leave? or perhaps he is wondering if irritable has dumped him?! stay tuned...

shut-up monkey tries to go sailing

shut-up decided to head down to the local marina. with winds at 20-25 knots, she thought it would be a good day to go sailing. the first bad sign was that the wind messed up her hair. then she couldn't even sit up. so she decided just to watch the puffy clouds go by.

love drawings

working on making drawings of things that are in my head, rather than drawing from seeing. this is what's in my head today...everyday.

a wrapped wire friend

my new friend. i love these characters! soon there will be a whole extended family of them living with me. this one was photographed with a background of black velvet - almost makes her look like she is dancing. so...now i am thinking of making a stop-motion clip of her and posting it on utube:) how 'bout that?

bad buddy in brooklyn

bad buddy's adventure began with traveling on the airline of homer simpson. the benefits of this kind of travel are that you have time to meet lots of nice people and you get to spend more hours in the terminal and on the runway, than you spend in the air. for those who don't like to fly, this airline allows you to spend lots of time on the ground. and bad buddy scored a free button with homer's image on it!

so bad buddy got a personal tour on a tandem bicycle with a very cute guide from bike the big apple. she then went to the socrates sculpture park in long island city queens/astoria and saw takashi horasaki's 'social dress new orleans' a re-creation of destroyed homes from katrina. she also enjoyed james johnson's sculpture 'freedom of movement' and flux factory's 'albatross'. she made a few new friends along the way, went to moma's p.s.1 and then back to waiting on the tarmac before returning home. a great trip indeed!

quilt with found stuff

shortly after attending the lucky school of quilting i was on a roll, making lots of derivative work and having fun with it. this was a quilt hanging in the doorway of the house where my son lived in college. the house named for all of the dogs, especially samson, the fave.

embroidered diary

as an incoming student, at the maine college of art, each new student was asked to make a six inch quilt square which will be put together as a whole quilt to be silent-auctioned off for a school benefit. i made two squares, similar to my embroidered diary. i made two squares and overlapped them. one has my date of birth and the other has the year 2007. each student's block is supposed to indicate 'where the student is from.' this was how i interpreted where i am from. since i will be in school with students who were born in the late '80's, i like the idea of putting my date of birth as part of showing where i am from.
