a work-in-progress quilt

here is a project i started five years ago - a quilt of my mom, my daughter and me, with my mom being in the middle. i couldn't quite figure what is what that wasn't working in this quilt, so i put it away. then, we moved and it was in storage, and now it is out and ready to be worked on. i think the circle needs to be more expansive - it is too small for the quilt size. any other ideas or suggestions or critiques?

You might be able to sort of fill out the corners of the quilt with quilted or embroidered or even appliqued imagery to help make that central circle feel more like it fits. That would be *my* approach anyway. I have no doubt you can come up with something!
