self portrait

do you know this beautiful girl? this is irritable's alter-ego, the author of the blog, in a self-portrait. geez, it's hard not to look so serious when you are staring at yourself in the mirror for hours and trying to adjust your glasses enough so you can alternately see up close and far away. i really am happier than i look...and happy you came to visit the blog.

Hello there, and cheer up. Yes, self-portraits usually are not the real person at all, no animation, no smiles because it's a bit ridiculous smiling at the mirror! I hope you are enjoying your studies - it's a great experience being a student of art/crafts - I think I went to classes for twenty years on and off.

I've only managed one self portrait so far and doesn't look anything like me. There was an interesting radio programme on BBC Radio 4 in October last year about Rembrandt’s self portraits about how when we do a self portrait looking in a mirror it’s not as others see us but obviously a mirror image of ourselves, so really we should look at any self portrait we do in another mirror to really see ourselves as others do. Something to think about.

That picture makes me want to reach out and TICKLE you to make you laugh!
I don't know if it looks just like you, but I know it looks VERY much like a real person.... good job!

yes, this is really me. and it is closer to what i looked like, at the time, than i care to admit. a few months ago, when i did this drawing, i was in a proverbial black hole. my drawing captured me better than any photo could have.

it was still fun to do:)

I have only done one self portrait. I look 15 years older than I was at the time and serious as a heart attack. the mirror does it, I'm sure. Look at Picasso-- bet he used a mirror too!
